Our Curriculum

Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum

The Mary Seacole Day Nursery aims to provide a happy and stimulating environment where each child  is able to thrive  and develop and reach their learning potential. Each child’s ability is assessed this allows the key carer to implement a learning program that is best suited to the child.

The Early Years Learning Goals (Prime areas)

Personal, Social, Emotional-  This  area has 3 parts: Managing feelings and behaviour, Self confidence and self awareness and Making relationships.

Physical Development – This area is split into 2 parts : Moving and Handling and Health and self care. Moving and Handling focuses on the development of fine and gross motor skills. Health and self care is  managing  own basic hygiene i.e. Washing hands, brushing teeth etc..

Communication and Language  –  focusing on language development, concentration,  language development, covering all areas of  communication.

 

(Specific areas)

Literacy-This is split in 2 parts: Reading and Writing.

Mathematics- This is split in 2 parts: Numbers, Shape, Space and Measure

Understanding the World- This is split in 3 parts- Technology, The World, People and communities.

Expressive Arts and Design

  • Children sing songs, make music and dance, and experiment with ways of changing them. They safely use and explore a variety of materials, tools and techniques, experimenting with colour, design, texture, form and function.- [Exploring with media and materials].
  • Children use what they have learnt about media and materials in original ways, thinking about uses and purposes. They represent their own ideas, thoughts and feelings through design and technology, art, music, dance, role-play and stories. – [Being imaginative]

 

Children at the age of 2-5 years take part in an integrated educational program which focuses primarily on the Early Learning Goals:

Prime Areas

 

Between the hours of 1:30 pm – 3:00 pm, the early learning goals are covered specifically as follows Monday-Language, Tuesday-Maths, Wednesday-Drama, Thursday-Creativity and Friday-Knowledge and Understanding.

These goals are not just designated to the afternoon but it is integrated throughout the nursery Curriculum.
